FLOURISHING FUTURES
A PEER LED RESEARCH PROJECT, DEDICATED TO EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 16-25 IN BRENT TO ADDRESS BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT, AND FOSTER INCLUSIVITY.
Funded by Youth Futures Foundation's Connected Futures Programme, The Flourishing Futures partnership comprises of Brent Council, MTVH, Hyde, Peabody Housing Associations and Spark Charity.
Our vision is of a borough where all young people have access to quality jobs, equal employment opportunities, fewer young people outside the labour market or in insecure work and improved progression pathways for young people.
Flourishing Futures is committed to empower young voices in Brent through our inclusive decision-making processes. With a dedicated team featuring four enthusiastic young members on our project board and ten peer researchers, we're actively fostering a community where every voice matters.
Key findings from the research
- We have found that attitudes towards younger workers need to change. A shift in perception will lead to a more inclusive environment where young people are considered for their skills, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives rather than being underestimated because of their age.
- There is a need for better mental health understanding and support in the workplace. Open conversations and a supportive environment can make a significant difference in employee well-being, which in turn positively impacts productivity and workplace culture.
- Parents and young people carry a set of assumptions regarding options post 16-18 which can limit the life choices of young people, e.g. University is the best route to employment, or the employment options in Brent are limit.
